Shamrocker, trained by Danny O’Brien, won the Group 2 VRC Sires Produce Stakes (1400m) on Saturday at the Flemington Racecourse’s Super Saturday.
Held as the third race of the day, the 2010 VRC Sires Produce Stakes ran before Melbourne was hit with dangerous weather conditions, which called off the last three races of the day including the Group 1 Australian Cup and the Group 1 Australian Guineas.
The races will be held on Saturday the 13th of March as part of the Blamey Stakes Day.
Shamrocker defied the odds, starting from the outside barrier, to overcome the field.
On the track, Shamrocker defied the odds, starting from the outside barrier to overcome the field and win the VRC Sires Produce Stakes.
Finishing close behind the winning filly, was Peter Moody’s Willow Creek, who was a favourite going into the race and was just pipped to the post.
Rounding out the top three was the Stuart Webb-trained Yosei, who was beaten by Willow Creek by a length, in what was a close finish by the contenders.
It seems O’Brien is now going to aim Shamrock for the VRC Oaks later this year.
Also taking place on Super Saturday was the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m).
