2010 AJC Sires Produce Stakes Nominations

April 6th, 2010

This Saturday at the Royal Randwick Racecourse, the Australian Derby Day is due to jump, and with three great Group 1 races – the AJC Sires Produce Stakes (1400m) is just one of the features.

The AJC Sires Produce Stakes draws some of Australia’s top thoroughbreds annually, and this year is no different as 119 have been nominated.

Worth $300,000, the Stakes sees two-year-olds competing over the 1,400 metre distance under set weights.

Dominated by the country’s top trainers, the entrants list sees Gai Waterhouse with 15 nominations – most notably the winner of the Pago Pago Stakes – Brightexpectations.

John Thompson has nine in the entry list, with Anthony Cummings and Peter Moody both having seven.

Winner of the illustrious Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m) – Crystal Lily is a dominant nomination for the 2010 AJC Sires Produce Stakes, defeating the field in the Group 1 event last Saturday.

She beat fellow nominee for Saturday’s race – Decision Time and More Strawberries, who finished the elite race for two-year-olds second and third respectively.

The Golden Slipper is an invaluably insight into horse form for coming into the 2010 AJC Sires Produce Stakes.

Also taking place on Saturday at Randwick will be the Group 1 T J Smith Stakes (1200m), the Group 1 Chairman’s Handicap (2600m) and the Group 3 Adrian Knox Stakes (2000m).
