The 2011 VRC Sire’s Produce Stakes Field has been announced and the 1400m event at Flemington Racecourse will feature 11 of the most talented up and comers in the country.
The Group 2 race for two-year-olds is the third event on the card at Flemington this Saturday March 12th and has a prize pool of $300,000.
One of the main contenders for the race is the Lee Freedman trained colt Masthead.
Every race he’s run in so far has been worth at least $150,000 and included a last start third placing in the Patinack Farm Blue Diamond Stakes.
That race was of course won by the freak of nature Sepoy and there will be nothing like that in the field this weekend.
One of the horses he beat in that race was Delago’s Lad which was unplaced in the Blue Diamond for the first time in his career.
Another big contender will be the Peter Snowden trained Helmet which placed on debut last year and has won both his 2011 races by a good margin.
Also unplaced in the Blue Diamond was Running Tall although previous to that the colt ran second behind Sepoy in the Blue Diamond Prelude and placed in a $150,000 race on debut at Flemington.
It’s a bit of a tricky race to read form wise so make sure you stay tuned for our full race guide coming later in the week.
