Exciting Field of 12 Confirmed for 2014 VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes

March 6th, 2014

An exciting field of 12 has been confirmed to line up at Flemington this weekend for the 2014 Group 2 VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m), including exciting sprinter Boomwaa.

Boomwaa has produced a particularly consistent racing career since debuting on track, which has included one win and three places from only seven starts.

Despite not being able to pose much of a threat, Boomwaa became the first two-year-old since Clever Zoe in 1993 to contest this Group 1 Black Caviar Lightning Stakes (1000m) on February 14th; essentially underlining the intent to contest a high-stakes racing career.

Initially geared towards a run in the Major Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) on April 5th, a tilt at the Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) now appears more likely, particularly if the classy Mutawaajid gelding performs to a high standard this weekend.

Also included in the final field for the 2014 VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes is exciting two-year-old prospect Marcado.

Having opened his career with a strong showing for first in a tough Cranbourne barrier Trial, Marcado produced a near-perfect run to beat Orujo and Lady Sharapova to the line in the Listed Talindert Stakes (1100m) first-up on February 15th.

Despite drawing the somewhat awkward barrier 9, trainer Steve Richards is confident Marcado can continue his so-far perfect career start in the 2014 VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes, who will again be partnered by jockey Steven King.

Talented colt Awesome Rock will carry winning form into the VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes, having claimed the Say It With Flowers Open (1300m) on February 26th.

Jockey Michael Rodd will likely follow the line of Marcado in the race’s early stages after drawing one barrier inside, and will be tough to beat if figuring in good position rounding the final bend.
