2014 VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes Betting Preview and Tips

March 7th, 2014

A talented field of 12 has been confirmed to line up for the 2014 Group 2 VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) at Flemington this weekend, with offering punters several key opportunities to place a winning bet.

Yet to be beaten in his short racing career, exciting gelding Marcado is currently featuring as outright favourite for the 2014 VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes at a quote of $3.50, ahead of Awesome Rock ($4.40), Boomwaa ($4.80) and Zululand ($7.50).

Can Marcado justify favouritism amongst punters, or will one of his talented rivals find the line first in the Group 2 VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes?

1st

Zululand ($7.50)

Despite finishing amongst the main pack for ninth in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield most recently, talented two-year-old Zululand is shaping as a legitimate threat to the 2014 VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes, having drawn the ideal barrier 5. Punters have so far delivered a sprinkle of bets on the Fastnet Rock colt, whom trainer David Hayes believes is the real deal for this weekend’s major Group 2.

2nd

Boomwaa ($4.80)

Initially geared towards an assault on the 2014 Golden Slipper, talented two-year-old Boomwaa’s sites are firmly set on the Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) at Royal Randwick one week later. Having already contested two Group 1 events in only seven race starts to date, Boomwaa looks set to cause serious problems to his rivals in the VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes this weekend after being allocated the ideal barrier 2.

3rd

Marcado ($3.50)

While only contesting the one race start to date; the Listed Talindert Stakes (1100m) on February 15th, Marcado has quickly registered as ‘one to watch’, having claimed that event with absolute ease. Punters have responded to the strong win in numbers, cutting the classy Choisir gelding from an opening quote of $4.20 to currently feature as both $3.50 favourite and clear market mover. Having drawn the somewhat awkward barrier nine, jockey Steven King will have to find a clear racing line early if Marcado is to continue his perfect career start in the 2014 VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes.
