Ryan To Saddle Four in 2014 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes

April 7th, 2014

Gerald Ryan has confirmed four  of his talented two-year-old runners will take positions in the Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) at Royal Randwick on Day 1 of the inaugural The Championships, with Time For War, Believe Yourself, Lucky Raquie and Peggy Jean all offering the leading trainer a good chance of success this weekend.

Finishing a strong fourth in the major Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens last weekend, Ryan confirmed Believe Yourself pulled up well on Sunday and is a certainty for this weekend’s second leg of the two-year-old Triple Crown.

“Believe Yourself ate up last night and has pulled up really well, so there’s no reason not to back her up” Ryan told AAP.

Confirmed to be partnered by Slipper jockey Brenton Avdulla in the Sires’ Produce, Ryan said he could not be happier with the form continued by the Group 2 Sweet Embrace Stakes (1200m) champion last weekend, particularly in overcoming the wide barrier 15.

“It was a fantastic effort” Ryan said.

“She is little but has a heart as big as herself.”

Having also included winner of last weekend’s Group 3 The Schweppervescence (1400m) Bachman in nominations for the 2014 Sires’ Produce Stakes, Ryan confirmed the impressive All American colt would remain in training ahead of an appearance in the Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600m) two weeks later on April 26th.

“The Sires’ has been the aim all along for Lucky Raquie, Peggy Jean and Time For War, but Bachman will stay home on Saturday” Ryan added.

“All five will go to the Champagne Stakes two weeks later depending on how they are.”

Having secured two wins from as many starts in his short but impressive racing career so far, Time For War will be partnered by up-and-coming jockey Damien Thornton in the 2014 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes after claiming a maiden Stakes win of his own aboard the Snitzel colt in the Group 2 Pago Pago Stakes (1200m) last time out.

“Damien does all the work on him and he gets on well with him” Ryan added.

With leading two-year-olds Mossfun and Earthquake expected to head to the spelling paddock following their battle in the final straight of the Golden Slipper last weekend, Ryan is offered a great opportunity to secure a 10th two-year-old winner in fourteen races this season.
