2014 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes Betting Update

April 10th, 2014

Featuring just four runners from last weekend’s Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m), the 2014 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) is one of four major Group 1 races on day 1 of The Championships at Royal Randwick this weekend, offering punters several key opportunities to place a winning bet.

Having produced a strong three race career to date, talented filly Believe Yourself is currently leading betting markets for success in the 2014 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes at $4 odds.

Quickly stamping her claims as a two-year-old to watch this season after securing back-to-back victories in the Dancer Handicap (1000m) and Group 2 Sweet Embrace Stakes (1200m), Believe Yourself produced an incredible turn of foot to nose clear of the main pack in the Golden Slipper last weekend, finishing an impressive fourth in undoubtedly her biggest test to date.

One of four Gerald Ryan-trained runners confirmed for the 2014 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes along with Time For War, Peggy Jean and Lucky Raquie, Believe Yourself has drifted slightly in betting markets after receiving the slight wide gate 8 at Wednesday’s barrier draw, but remains without doubt the one to beat this weekend.

Featuring alone on the second line of betting for success in the 2014 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes, Peggy Jean is yet to finish outside the places in four race starts to date, and will leave from the ideal barrier 4 in this weekend’s major race for two-year-olds.

Finishing second to Nayeli in the 2014 ATC Memberships On Sale Fillies Maiden (1000m) on January 8th, Peggy Jean has contested one of the more consistent seasons of any two-year-old this time in; breaking through for her maiden victory in the Inglis Classic Open (1200m) on January 18th and finishing a competitive third in the ATC Membership On Sale Now Handicap (1200m) on February 1st.

Displaying a keen turn of foot to finish just half a length behind talented filly Bring Me The Maid in the Group 2 Magic Night Stakes (1200m) last time out, the Myboycharlie filly will be partnered by in-form jockey Nash Rawiller this weekend and is a real chance of finishing in the clear.

Also yet to finish outside the places in three career starts, Kumaon has largely flown under the radar in two-year-old races this season, but more than stamped his claims on a Group 1 appearances when finishing a close second behind fellow ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes acceptor Time For War in the Group 2 Pago Pago Stakes (1200m) last time out.

Allocated the outside barrier 11 for this weekend’s event, the Lonhro colt has drifted slightly from opening odds of $5.80 to current feature as outright third favourite in betting markets for the 2014 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes at $6 odds.

Leading male prospects Unencumbered and Cornrow arguably offer punters the best value for money for the ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes, currently featuring at particularly generous odds of $11 and $14 respectively.

Securing five wins and two places from nine race starts, Unencumbered finished a disappointing tenth in the Golden Slipper last weekend, but has more than registered his claims as a leading two-year-old male this season, particularly when finishing a strong second in the Group 2 Todman Stakes (1200m) on March 22nd.

Cornrow was also disappointing in the Golden Slipper, but has gained a name as particularly consistent performer; finishing third in both the major Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) and Todman Stakes prior to his most recent appearance.

Punters have jumped all over an opening quote of $16 for Cornrow this week, cutting his odds to currently register as clear market mover for success this weekend.
