April 11th, 2014

A talented field of 11 two-year-olds have accepted a position in the final field for the 2014 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) at Royal Randwick this weekend; the first of four major Group 1 races on day 1 of the inaugural The Championships.

Having each produced a strong start to their respective racing careers, Believe Yourself and Peggy Jean currently share the top line of betting for success in the 2014 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes at generous $4 odds, ahead of clear market mover Kumaon ($6), Lucky Raquie ($7) and Time For War ($8).

Will Believe Yourself or Peggy Jean justify favouritism, or will one of their talented opponents find the 2014 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes line in the clear?

Time For War ($8)

Securing a perfect record of two wins from as many competitive starts to date, Time For War offers punters sensational value for money at current $8 odds and will be partnered by regular jockey, apprentice Damien Thornton. Producing a strong turn of foot to win the CFMEU Mining & Energy Plate (1100m) on debut in November, the Snitzel colt undoubtedly hit peak condition when comfortably claiming the Group 2 Pago Pago Stakes (1200m) ahead of fellow ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes acceptor Kumaon last time out.

Believe Yourself ($4)

Winner of the Dancer Handicap (1000m) on debut in December, Believe Yourself has quickly stamped her claims as a two-year-old to watch this season, winning the Group 2 Sweet Embrace Stakes (1200m) with relative ease first-up this year before producing a strong turn of foot to finish fourth in the major Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) last weekend. While having to overcome the slightly wide barrier 8 this weekend, the exciting Sebring filly will be partnered by Slipper jockey Brenton Avdulla and will be particularly difficult to beat on a damp surface.

Unencumbered ($13)

Lining up for the 2014 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes as the field’s most experienced runner, Unencumbered offers punters incredible value for success at current $13 odds, or $3.70 for a place. Securing an impressive five wins and two places from his nine race starts so far, Unencumbered was disappointing when 10th in the Golden Slipper last time out, but is offered far better opportunity for success this weekend, having be allocated the ideal barrier 2 and confirmed to be partnered by leading jockey Craig Williams for the third time.

The ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes features as leg two of the two-year-old Triple Crown, sharing an impressive Randwick race card on Australian Derby day.
