2014 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes Final Field and Barrier Draw

May 21st, 2014

A talented field of 15 has been confirmed to line up for a tilt at the 2014 Group 2 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1350m) at Brisbane’s Doomben Racecourse this weekend, highlighted by several key performers throughout the Sydney Autumn Carnival.

Breaking through for an impressive victory in the Group 2 Champagne Classic (1200m) last time out, Brazen Beau has been included in the final field for this weekend’s two-year-old feature race.

Contesting an impressive record of two wins from just three competitive starts to date, Brazen Beau has fast shot to the forefront of current competing two-year-olds, and is clear favourite in early betting markets to win the major Group 1 J.J. Atkins (1600m) on June 7th.

Allocated the ideal barrier 5, leading jockey Nash Rawiller has been confirmed to retain the ride on the I Am Invincible colt this weekend and is a great chance of continuing his strong run of results.

Also included in the final field for the 2014 BRC Sires’ Produce is talented local Looks Like The Cat.

Arguably the standout of the current crop of Queensland based two-year-olds along with Golden Slipper contender Oakleigh Girl, Looks Like The Cat displayed an impressive turn of foot to finish second in the Champagne Classic last time out, but will have to overcome the relatively awkward barrier 12 if to go one better in the Sires’ Produce.

Strolling home to win the XXXX Gold 2.y.o Handicap (1200m) by two lengths in his only appearance on track prior to the Champagne Classic, trainer Tony Gollan has an understandably high opinion of the Husson colt and is confident jockey Damien Browne will get the best from his entrant this weekend.

Trainer John O’Shea will be offered twice the chance of success in the 2014 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes, having accepted positions in the final field for talented stable mates Mohave and Careless.

Allocated the wide barrier 15, Mohave’s chances of success took a huge boost when confirmed to be partnered by in-form jockey Michael Rodd in the BRC Sires’ Produce.

Claiming one win and a place from five competitive starts so far, the Exceed And Excel colt displayed a strong turn of foot to overcome poor position and finish sixth in the major Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) on February 22nd in arguably his most impressive performance to date.

While yet to claim a race win over four starts, Careless is offered a legitimate shot at breaking the drought this weekend at Doomben, having been allocated the ideal barrier 3.

Yet to appear in an event north of the border, the Exceed And Excel colt finished second in the Listed Fernhill Handicap (1600m) at Randwick last time out and has notable experience in lining up against talented fields.

Aiming for an impressive fifth consecutive victory when lining up for the 2014 BRC Sires’ Produce on Saturday, Gold Coast native Aimee has finished outside the places just once in six race starts so far, but has been charged with the task of overcoming the awkward barrier 14.

Comfortably winning the Group 3 Ken Russell Memorial (1200m) last time out, trainer Noel Doyle is confident another impressive performance from the Exceedingly Good filly will translate into a legitimate shot at the J.J. Atkins.
