2015 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes Likely to Figure Voilier

December 10th, 2014

More than stamping his claims as one to watch when securing a commanding race win on debut at Rosehill last weekend, trainer Gary Nickson has revealed classy two-year-old Voilier has returned to the spelling paddock ahead of a 2015 Autumn Carnival likely to be geared towards the Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on Day 1 of The Championships.

Jumping from the gates well in the Sire Custodians Plate (1100m), in-form jockey Tye Angland settled the Beneteau gelding in prime position on the heels of the race’s early leaders, receiving an ideal run in transit before jogging clear in the final straight to find the line nearly four lengths in the clear of closest rival Zoutenant.

Understandably pleased with his short racing career so far, Nickson told TVN he would be silly not to consider the Golden Slipper (1200m) as an option during the 2015 Autumn Racing Carnival, but believes the 1400m running distance of the Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes may figure as an ideal trip.

“I’ve just dropped him off. I can give him four or five weeks now then get him back about January 7 or 8, and start on having him ready for the autumn,” Nickson said of Voilier’s return to the paddock.

“I think the way he races, he’s such a relaxed horse, he gives me the impression he could be a Sires Produce horse.

“Of course the Golden Slipper will be an option, but if we went that way I would say it would be his fourth run in and that would be it (the end of his preparation).”

Having contested just the one competitive start so far, Nickson revealed he has received many offers from interested parties all over the world to purchase Voilier.

“The phone hasn’t stopped ringing,” Nickson added.

“We’ve had a lot of offers for the horse since he won on Saturday, from all over the place, including Hong Kong.

“He’s obviously a very good horse.”
