Vancouver Leads 2015 ATC Sires Produce Stakes First Acceptances

March 10th, 2015

Gai Waterhouse’s outstanding young colt Vancouver heads the ATC Sires Produce Stakes 2015 first acceptances taken by Racing NSW on Monday for Day 1 of The Championships at Randwick Racecourse on Saturday April 1.

The Medaglia D’Oro colt was one of 198 two-year-olds nominated for this autumn’s $1 million Group 1 ATC Sires Produce Stakes (1400m) last month, and one of the 70 first acceptances taken yesterday.

He firmly leads the futures ATC Sires Produce Stakes odds already at a short $2.50, a price that will near odds-on territory should he win the $3.5 million Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) in the lead-up at Rosehill on March 21.

He retained his undefeated status last Saturday at Randwick winning his third race from as many starts with a commanding three and a quarter-length victory in the Group 2 Todman Stakes (1200m), a race where the odds-on favourite Headwater ran third.

Waterhouse has an outstanding record in the ATC Sires Produce Stakes with seven previous winners, most recently her star colt Pierro in 2012.

This year Vancouver is one of 13 first acceptances for Tulloch Lodge with some of her other big name hopefuls including Group 2 Reisling Stakes (1200m) winning filly English, last start Wyong winner Street Rapper and lightly-raced Redoute’s Choice colt Raphael’s Cat.

The other two best fancied juveniles in the early ATC Sires Produce Stakes betting markets at bookmakers around the country are the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Blue Diamond Stakes winner in Melbourne last month Pride Of Dubai and the John O’Shea-trained Lonhro colt Exosphere last seen taking out the Group 2 Skyline Stakes (1200m) in Sydney.

Also well-fancied in the futures markets is the Mick Price-trained More Than Ready colt Ready For Victory after he won his debut at Flemington in the Listed Festival Stakes (1000m) last Saturday.

Other young horses high up the ATC Sires Produce Stakes markets post-first acceptances are Chris Waller’s More Than Ready filly Always Allison who won the Group 2 Sweet Embrace Stakes (1200m) last time out, Lindsay Park’s best entry Furnaces who was runner-up to Vancouver in the Todman last weekend, Godolphin’s highly-spruiked Street Cry colt Inner Circle and Lake Geneva for Team Hawkes who ran third in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at just her second start.
