Purton is yet to partner Sacred Elixir during her short racing career so far, but the talented gelding made a positive debut to Australian racing when comfortably beating home a number of notable locals in the Bundaberg Rum Handicap (1400m) on the Sunshine Coast on May 11th.

Representative for Raffles Racing Bruce Sherwin, the owning syndicate of Sacred Elixir told The Informant the team expected the classy two-year-old to relish the 1350m of the 2016 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes after coming through his first-up run well.

“Everything has gone well with him since Caloundra and the 1350 metres on Saturday fits very well going forward to the 1600 of the J.J. Atkins,” Sherwin said.

“That’s his target and Tony (Pike) is very happy with him.”

Sacred Elixir has more than stamped himself as one to watch through his short but impressive racing career so far; posting two wins and a close second through only four competitive appearances.

Trialling well in the lead-up to his competitive debut, the Pour Moi gelding was caught wide in transit in the running of the Timeout Maiden (1200m) at Ellerslie on December 28th.

Rated a leading chance of success in the Countdown To Karaka Millions Plate (1200m) on January 9th, Sacred Elixir justified his resounding support with a standout performance for a maiden win; bobbing his head at the right time to beat The Soultaker on the line.

Set for a maiden black type appearance in the Listed Karaka Millions (1200m) on January 24th, the gelding out of Baltika was unable to overcome an early check but finished a credible sixth, amongst a classy field of fourteen.

Purton has good experience riding winners for Raffles Racing, having partnered Sacred Falls to success in each of the Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m) and Group 1 George Main Stakes (1600m) in 2014.

The 2016 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes final field and barrier draw is due to be completed and released by midday, Wednesday.
